Box Score FLORENCE, SC - Guards Shana Franks, Eboni Fields, and Jennifer
Dyer scored 19, 18, and 17 points respectively and the trio
combined to shoot 12-of-26 from behind the three-point arc as
Francis Marion University shot its way to a record-setting 117-35
win over Chowan University, Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22) in
non-conference women's basketball action.
The Patriot Women remain unbeaten at 3-0, while the Hawks drop
to 0-4 as the two programs met for the first time. Francis
Marion will play host to Morris College on Tuesday night at 7:30
p.m.
Franks hit 3-of-8 from long range en route to her game-high 19
points, while Fields nailed 6-of-11 three-point attempts as the
Patriots made a school-record 17 three-pointers (in 32
attempts). That broke the old mark of 14 set nearly four
years ago (Nov. 23, 2004) in a home win over Presbyterian
College. In the second half alone, FMU nailed 11 of 17 from
beyond the arc.
Dyer added a trio of three pointers, while three other Patriots
also scored in double figures: sophomore Shannon Singleton-Bates
13, senior Katherine Kiefer 11, and sophomore Robin Colbert 10.
FMU scored the game's first nine points and never trailed.
The Patriots led 50-20 at halftime.
The Patriots shot 67.6 percent over the final 20 minutes, while
holding the Hawks to only 5-of-22 from the field. Every
Patriot player in uniform scored.
The final 82-point margin was the fourth largest in team history
and the highest in 21 seasons, surpassing Wednesday's 79-point
victory. FMU forced 54 turnovers on Saturday and
recorded 35 steals, equaling the most in head coach Heather Macy's
short two-year stint in Florence.
Center AJ O'Banion and guard Maddie Cummings led the Hawks with
nine points each. O'Banion also hauled down six rebounds.
