CLINTON, S.C. - Francis Marion University, led by junior Hillary
Kiprop, won the 2008 Blue Hose Invitational meet, hosted by
Presbyterian College on Friday afternoon (Oct. 3), while FMU women
finish fifth.
Kiprop won his second individual title of the season by
finishing the 8,000-meter race in a person-best time of
25:54. The Eldoret, Kenya, native finished 1:44 ahead of the
second-place finisher.
The FMU men compiled a 23-point team score to edge Presbyterian
(51), North Greenville College (53), and Allen University (DNS).
Following Kiprop, Patriot senior Dan Brann placed fourth in
28:50, while Ben Miller was fifth (29:10), Steven Holmes was sixth
(29:19), Jerry Roth was seventh (person-best 29:24), and Adam
Wilson was 10th (30:35).
Lander University, with 39 points, won the women's team title
for the third time in the past four years. FMU registered a
95-point team score in the 6-team field.
Senior Kelly May led the Patriot women with a second-place
finish. She completed the 5,000-meter course in 19:59, her
second sub-20 minute performance in the last two meets. She
finished 12 seconds behind the winning runner.
Amanda Doyle followed May with a 14th-place finish in 21:56,
while Samantha Smith placed 23rd (23:34), Kimberly Richardson was
24th (23:35), Holly Todd was 32nd (25:32), and Amanda Booker was
37th (29:12).
Both Francis Marion squads will run in the Wingate University
Pre-Conference Invitational Meet on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 16.
