Francis Marion University Athletics

Marion "Spyder" Webb is a native of Florence, S.C.  He is entering his 36th year as the university's head athletic trainer.  He is a 1978 graduate of Francis Marion with a B.S.degree in political science.  He attended Clemson University for two years before transferring to Francis Marion.  He is also a product of Florence's McClenaghan High School, where he picked up his nickname.

During each of the past 33 summers, Webb has worked with the Seattle Mariners' short-season Class A baseball club in the Northwest League.  During the 2008 summer, he was honored for this work by his current squad, the Everett AquaSox.  This past summer, the AquaSox recognized Webb with his own Bobbleheader Night.
