Kevin Simmons enters his first year as an assistant coach on theFrancis Marion University men's staff.
His primary responsibilities include recruiting, on-floorcoaching, individual player workouts, pre- and post-season workoutsand helping in the area of academic support for team members.
Simmons comes to FMU from Western Oklahoma State College, wherehe served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator forthe past three seasons. In 2013-14, Western finished with a20-9 record. This was his second stint in Altus, Okla.,having previously been an assistant coach from 2007 through 2010.In all during his six seasons, the Pioneers registered a 114-67mark.
In between, Simmons spent one season (2010-11) as director ofbasketball operations for Division I Saint Peter'sUniversity. The Peacocks won the Metro Atlantic AthleticConference title, posted a 20-14 record, and made their first NCAATournament appearance in 16 years.
Simmons has coached with the San Antonio Sharks AAU program andworked with the Hoopgroup's Bob Hurley Instructional Basketball(summer) Camp.
A native of Jersey City, N.J., he is a 20-yeteran of the UnitedStates Air Force. He served in Operations DesertShield/Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation IraqiFreedom. He earned a pair of associate degrees from the AirUniversity.
