Alex King enters his first year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communication Services at Francis Marion University.
Prior to joining FMU, King served for three years on the administrative staff at the University of Mount Olive. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics/Media and Communications in July 2024 after serving two years as the Director of Athletic Communications. He served as the primary contact for all 25 intercollegiate sports, updated the athletic website, and produced departmental publications.
Mount Olive was honored as the Conference Carolinas Athletic Communications Staff of the Year for the 2024-25 school year, marking the first time the institution garnered the accolade.
King was a participant in the 2023-24 Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship presented by College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.
In addition to his responsibilities at UMO, King was the Media Coordinator for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship from 2023-25. He currently serves on the NCBWA Southeast Region Committee, the CSC Academic All-American Committee, and is the Conference Carolinas liaison for Cross Country/Track & Field. Additionally, he worked on the Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) for women’s lacrosse in 2025.
Before his arrival to Mount Olive, King was as an Assistant Sports Information Director at California University of Pennsylvania.
During his time at Cal U, King served as a graduate assistant before being promoted to Assistant Sports Information Director in August 2018. He assisted with the release of a new athletic website in September 2018, while being responsible for the official social media accounts for Cal U Athletics. He was responsible for tournament and season previews, player and coach profiles, photo galleries, rosters, schedules and webstreaming. King served as a school representative at various NCAA post-season events, including the NCAA Football Playoffs, NCAA Volleyball Atlantic Region Tournament and NCAA Cross Country Regional and National Championships.
King previously worked as a student assistant in the Athletic Communications Department at West Virginia University. He worked closely with baseball, men's soccer and gymnastics. He transcribed quotes for weekly football media sessions and post-game basketball press conferences while assisting with gameday operations for all 18 intercollegiate programs, including hosting the NCAA Tournament in women's soccer and the NCAA Regional for gymnastics.
Additionally, King has been an official scorer and season ticket intern for the West Virginia Black Bears after previously serving in the box office for the Potomac Nationals.
Prior to his professional career, King served as a student manager for the women's basketball team at West Virginia.
King completed his bachelor's degree in sport management with a minor in communication from West Virginia University in 2017. The following year, he earned his master's degree in sport management with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration from Cal U.
