Former professional softball player and Lakewood, Calif, native Jessie Scoggins recently completed her second season as an assistant coach for the Francis Marion University softball program.Â
She was part of the 2025 coaching staff that was recognized as the ATEC/NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year for the Southeast Region of NCAA Division II, after an historic season that saw the Patriots post a 53-6 overall record (most wins in program history), capture a third consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament championship, and advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth straight year, serving as host for both the sub-regional and Super Regional rounds. FMU ended the regular season ranked second in the NFCA/GoRout DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and was in the top four for each of the final seven weeks of the regular season.
She helped the Patriots to a program-record 47 wins in 2024, the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Southeast sub-Regional title game.
Scroggins came to FMU after two seasons as an assistant at Texas Southern University, during which time the NCAA Division I Tigers produced 42 wins. She also spent two seasons (2020, 2021) as a graduate assistant at the University of Dallas.
She earned B.A. degree in communication from Baylor University in 2018 and a master's degree in leadership from the University of Dallas in 2021.
During her time at Baylor, she was a four-year starter and a 2018 first-team All-American on the softball diamond. She set the Bears' single-season record for batting with a .461 average as a senior, and holds the program career records for hits (277) and multi-hit games. A centerfielder, she was the 2017 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and helped Baylor reach the 2017 Woman’s College World Series. The Bears participated in four consecutive NCAA Regionals during her career.Â
Following her collegiate career, Scroggins was selected 15th overall in the 2018 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft by the Chicago Bandits. She was the 805Stats Rookie of the Year after setting a single-season rookie batting mark with a .412 average. Â
