Fabio Tamayo

Fabio Tamayo enters his first season as assistant coach for the Francis Marion men's soccer program.

A native of Bogota, Colombia, Tamayo is a 2010 graduate of Warner University with a B.A. degree in sports management. He later earned a M.A. degree in athletic administration and coaching from Concordia University (Calif).  He played one season as a defender for Warner, a year (2007) that saw the Royals earn a Top 25 national ranking, and then he transitioned to an assistant coach role for boht the men's and women's programs in 2008 -- a position he held for three years.  Prior to joining the Royals, he attended Colegio Presentacion Centro in Bogota.

Tamayo then served as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater, Warner, for three seasons from 2011 through 2013, compiling a 24-24-3 mark.

He played professionally in Colombia for three years with Millonarios, and served a 2010 internship with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.

He most recently taught at Lake Mary (Fla.) High School, and has worked in various roles with the Florida Kraze Krush soccer organization in Oviedo, Fla., for the past four years.  He served as Boy's Elite Club National League (ECNL) director and ECNL trainer from 2017 to 2019, and was the head coach with Kraze United (National Premier Soccer League) in the summer of 2017 with a 7-5 record.

His addition to our program is tremendous, not only because his knowledge of the game, but also because he is a great human being. His family effect on the FMU community will be great.  We go way back to when we played together in Colombia. His professional career was outstanding. I’m very happy and I know he will do an outstanding job.”

Tamayo holds a USSF C Coaching License.
