FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore Miguel Maia continued his strong play as Francis Marion University swept past visiting Lees-McRae College 7-0, Saturday afternoon (Apr. 11) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion improves to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference.  The Patriots will conclude the regular season with road matches at Barton College on Wednesday and at Chowan University on Saturday.
 
Doubles wins by sophomores Diego Vega Espinosa and Adrian Calvo Guerrero (6-1) at No.3 and Maia and freshman Viktor Viraghalmi (6-3) at No.1 gave Francis Marion the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles play, FMU did not drop a set.  Junior Alexandre Frigout was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at the No.2 position, while Viraghalmi won 6-1, 6-3 at the No.4 slot.  Vega Espinosa followed with the clinching point as he came out on top 6-2, 6-2 at the sixth singles rung.
 
Also claiming wins for FMU were Maia (6-3, 6-2) at No.1, freshman Boris van Ruiten (6-3, 6-1) at No.3, and freshman Koldo Zuniga (6-1, 7-5) at No.5.  Maia is now 7-2 against Conference Carolinas singles opponents in 2026.
