BALTIMORE, MD – Morgan State University defeated Francis Marion University 243.950 to 213.550, Sunday afternoon (March 8) in a non-conference acrobatics and tumbling meet.
The Patriots (0-4) will be idle for nearly two weeks before hosting local rival Coker University in the Smith University Center on Friday, March 20, at 6 p.m.
Morgan State took a 35.70-29.80 edge following the compulsory portion of the event. FMU's total included a 9.15 score in the pyramid heat.
In the acro event, Francis Marion claimed a slight advantage after the opening heat behind a performance by senior
Mikayla Brown, junior
Keirstyn Rogers and
Bethany Tymes, sophomore
JaLin Nelson, and freshman
Eilee Gonzales, 8.800-8.150. The Bears reversed that order in the next two heats to win the event by a 23.400-20.900 margin.
During the pyramid portion, the Patriots registered an 8.650 score in the second heat (synchronized) en route to a 25.00 mark, while Morgan State scored 27.45 to hold an 86.55-75.70 lead at halftime.
The Bears outscored FMU in the initial two sessions of the toss event. The Patriots won the open portion of the event with a score of 8.550 with the squad of Gonzales, Nelson, junior
Jaliyah Douglas, sophomore
Destiny Keve and
Jordyn Hines, and freshman
Daijah Parrish. Morgan ultimately claimed the toss event by a narrow margin of 24.60-24.35.
Morgan State captured the tumbling event 52.25-44.600, with Gonzales tallying a team-best 8.875 in the 6-element pass.
The Bears rounded out the afternoon by winning the team event by an 80.55 to 68.90 count.
