GREENVILLE, SC – Following a pair of shutout victories on the road, Francis Marion University junior defender
Joy Brockmann was selected the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 15-21.
A native of Bernau, Germany, Brockmann started both matches on the backline while playing 160 of 180 minutes for the Patriots. On Wednesday, she assisted on the opening goal in a 2-0 win at Mount Olive and limited the Trojans to only 10 shots (6 on goal). Over the weekend, Brockmann scored the fifth goal in a 6-0 win at Ferrum in 70 minutes of action, while holding the Panthers to only 3 shots (2 on goal).
FMU is off to its best start in 25 seasons following a 4-0-0 unbeaten record. The Patriots rank 30th in NCAA Division II and lead the Conference Carolinas with a .500 goal-against average after surrendering only two goals in 2025. Additionally, Francis Marion sits 14th in the country in shutout percentage after recording three in its opening four matches.
FMU will play Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in a Southeast Regional matchup with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
