Cora Lepper delivered first-half goals on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 17), as Francis Marion University remains unbeaten following a 2-0 shutout victory at Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action.
The Patriots improved to 3-0-0 overall behind a 2-0-0 mark in league play. It marks the second three-match winning streak in three years. Additionally, Francis Marion records a fifth-straight win over UMO, with three of those victories coming on the road. FMU continues its three-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 20, against conference newcomer Ferrum College at 2 p.m.
The Patriots established an early 1-0 edge at the 8:12 mark of the first half after Dave' chipped a shot over the goalkeeper off a long pass from junior
Joy Brockmann. It marked a second-straight game with a goal from Dave'. Francis Marion continued to control possession in the offensive zone and extended its lead in the 21st minute. Freshman
Jaylynn Kemmerlin delivered a cross into the box to Dave' who passed in front of the goal before being buried in the back of the net by Lepper, her second of the year. At the break, FMU held a 6-4 lead in shots while both sides attempted two corner kicks.
Mount Olive peppered two shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, with FMU junior goalkeeper
Erin Grabeel collecting a pair of saves. Francis Marion responded with a trio of shots on goal, including two attempts from freshman
Madeline Ballard. Grabeel would secure two more saves just beyond the 65th minute to preserve the two-goal advantage for the Patriots. FMU shut down the Mount Olive offense after only conceding one shot in the final 20 minutes of the match.
Grabeel captured her second clean sheet of the year and collected a season-high six saves on 10 shots faced in 90 minutes of action.
Francis Marion finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots while holding a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
