DUNCAN, SC – Junior left-handed pitcher
Alyssa Poston tossed a three-hit shutout as second-ranked and top-seeded Francis Marion University blanked third-seeded Barton College 5-0, Sunday afternoon (Apr. 27) in an elimination game at the 2025 Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament.
Francis Marion (46-4) advances to play 10th-seeded Emmanuel University (Ga.) later on Sunday at 5 p.m. in an elimination semifinal contest.
Poston (25-2) did not walk anyone and struck out five batters. The Conference Pitcher of the Year ties teammate
Jenna Walling for third place on the Patriot career pitching wins list with a 53-8 mark.
FMU registered nine hits by seven different players. Junior shortstop
Madalyn White led the way with three hits, while senior outfielder
Emily Konz went 1-for-3 to extend her hitting streak to 14 games.
White led off the bottom of the third with a single through the left side and Konz reached on an error while bunting. After a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Conference Player of the Year
Paige Strickland retired White at third, Konz and Strickland moved up on a ground out. Freshman catcher
Rylee Gray delivered a two-run single to left field, plating both runners for a 2-0 margin.
In the fifth, a trio of walks loaded the bases for FMU with two outs. Senior pinch-hitter
Samantha Turnage recorded the clutch two-RBI single to left field. The Division I transfer has 10 RBIs on just seven hits this season.
Poston retired the first six batters she faced and allowed only two runners to reach scoring position.
