#10 Limestone defeats FMU Acro

GAFFNEY, SC – The Francis Marion University acrobatics and tumbling team set a new high score, but the Patriots fell 264.010-230.320 to reigning Conference Carolinas champions and 10th-ranked Limestone University on Tuesday (Feb. 25) night.
 
The Patriots (0-4) will compete in a tri-match against Converse University and Coker University in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday, March 15, at 3 p.m.
 
In the Acro heat of Compulsory vent, senior bases Madison Dykes and Mikayla Brown, sophomore tumbler Hailey Gaither, sophomore bases Jaliyah Douglas and Alyssa-Naomi Pippins, freshman top Melody Hawkins, and freshman bases Mia Limberiou and Madison Hankinson scored 7.850 points with a start value of 10.00.
 
Out of a possible 20 points, the Pyramid and Toss heats of Compulsory scored 18.200 points.
 
Hawkins, Hankinson, Gaither, Mitchell, Pippins, freshman tumbler Destiny Keve, freshman base JaLin Nelson, and freshman base Jordyn Hines finished the Tumbling heat with 5.650 points to follow Limestone with a score of 37.200-31.700.
 
To start heat one (five element) of the Acro Event, Gaither and Pippins and junior top Alexandria Mitchell tallied 8.00 points out of 9.600. Heat two (six element synchronized) and heat three (seven element) combined for 14.500 points.
 
The Saints accumulated 27.650 points throughout the Acro Event to lead Francis Marion 64.850-54.350 heading into the Pyramid Event. In that competition, Limestone totaled 28.850 points. 
 
Limestone led 93.700-81.700 as the teams entered halftime.
 
Heat one of Toss scored 8.550 points, heat two scored 8.300 points, and heat three scored 8.200 points for a running total of 24.850 points. Limestone posted 27.200 during the Toss Event. 
 
The Patriots three synchronized tumbling passes scored a total of 18.050 points in comparison to the Saints 24.800 points.
 
Gaither performed the Aerial pass to score 8.025 points while Keve scored 7.400 points out of 8.350 in the 6 Element tumbling pass. Hines also chipped in another 8.275 points after completing her Open tumbling pass.
 
Francis Marion trailed Limestone 174.200-148.300 following the six Tumbling heats.
 
With a start value of 92.52, Francis Marion finished team event with 82.020 points, while Limestone listed 89.00 points.
