Tehya Dave' nets a brace, as the No. 17 ranked Francis Marion University women's soccer program erupted for four goals in the second half in a 4-0 victory at Erskine on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 25) in Conference Carolinas action.
The Patriots extended their unbeaten run to 14-0-0 following a 12th consecutive clean sheet, while improving to 11-0-0 in conference play. FMU remains one of two NCAA Division II programs still unbeaten and untied, with top-ranked Dallas Baptist (13-0) scheduled to play on Sunday. Additionally, the Patriots stretch their impressive shutout streak to 1094:15 scoreless minutes.
Francis Marion hosts its final regular-season home match on Tuesday, Oct. 28, against divisional foe UNC Pembroke with kickoff set for 5 p.m. at Hartzler Field.
The Patriots tallied a pair of corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes of the contest, but the Flying Fleet registered the first shot on goal, which was comfortably saved by junior goalkeeper
Erin Grabeel. Following three shots missing the target by the Patriots, Dave' registered a shot on goal from the top-left corner of the 18-yard box, which was stopped by the Erskine goalie at the near post. FMU tallied three more shots on goal in the closing minutes, including a free kick from freshman defender
Laïla Ayup that was pushed over the crossbar with 14 seconds left.
At halftime, Francis Marion held a 9-1 shot advantage while posting an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.
In the second half, FMU found its breakthrough after freshman defender
Jaylynn Kemmerlin played a long ball down the left wing, which connected with Dave', who beat the keeper from 12 yards out into the left-side netting in the 55th minute, 1-0.
Late in the final half, the Patriots were awarded a penalty kick at the 82:51 mark, and sophomore defender
Alana Hunt scored a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, 2-0. Just 54 seconds later, freshman midfielder
Georgia-Allen Aaron scored on a blast from over 35 yards out into the upper left 90 of the goal to take a 3-0 advantage.
In the 85th minute, a cross into the box bounced off multiple Erskine defenders before Dave' delivered a left-footed shot into the net to tie the Conference Carolinas lead with 10 goals this season.
Dave' sits in a three-way tie for 14th all-time at Francis Marion in career goals with 19, along with Elizabeth Asare and Elysa Neely.
Grabeel collected the one save on one shot faced for her 11th shutout of the year following 90 minutes of play.
Francis Marion finished with a 23-1 shot advantage while matching a single-match school record with 17 corner kicks.
