Francis Marion takes 4-1 road win over Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Junior forward Tehya Dave' scored two goals to lead Francis Marion University to a 4-1 road win over the University of Mount Olive, Wednesday evening (Oct. 2) in a mid-week Conference Carolinas women's soccer match-up.

The Patriots (5-1-2, 4-0-1) will host North Greenville University on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. start time.

Reigning Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore goalkeeper Erin Grabeel, totaled 90 minutes in goal with one save for FMU. Mount Olive's Samantha Gildner tallied six saves.

Mount Olive (3-2-3, 2-2-1) jumped to an early lead as Tianna Hill scored just two minutes into the contest.

The Patriots trailed 1-0 until the 15th minute, but a shot from Davé ricocheted off the crossbar and to the feet of junior forward Kristina Syragakis for a quick shot and the equalizer goal. After another 16 minutes, the pair of junior forwards combined for FMU's second goal, with Davê recording the game-winner and Syragakis with the assist.

Entering the second half with a 2-1 lead, the Patriots continued their offensive tear. Senior forward Ashley Jordan registered the third goal for FMU, as Davé slipped a pass just past the goalkeeper and allowed Jordan to shoot on an open net at 55:37.

The Patriots held the margin at 3-1 until the 83rd minute. FMU scored its final goal as sophomore Chloe Pfaff got a through ball to Davê for her second score.

Francis Marion with a sizeable advantage, outshot Mount Olive 24-5 with 10 shots on goal. The Patriots also took six corner kicks compared to the Trojans' three.

The Francis Marion defense has yet to allow more than one goal in any match this season.  The Patriots are one of only five unbeaten squads in conference play.
