SUMTER, SC – Fifth-seeded and 47th-ranked Francis Marion University captured the doubles point and then won straight-sets decisions at the bottom three singles positions to earn a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Southern Wesleyan University, Friday morning (April 29) in the opening round of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament.
 
The Patriots improve to 13-6 and advance to face fourth-seeded and 48th-ranked Emmanuel College (Ga.) later Friday at 2 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.  The three-day event is being held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
 
Francis Marion registered the doubles point as freshman Luis Lopez Sarasa and sophomore Adam Ernberg were victorious 6-3 at the No.3 position and sophomores Liam Day and Leonel Gonzalez won 6-3 at the top spot.  The latter duo upped their season mark to 16-2.
 
In singles play, Ernberg doubled the advantage to 2-0 with a quick 6-3, 6-0 win at the No.6 spot.
Lopez Sarasa followed with 6-2, 6-4 victory at No.5 that improved his season record to 13-5, and freshman Martin Barbera closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No.4 singles.
