AUGUSTA, GA – Freshman right-hander Sydney Holland tossed a three-hit shutout and junior righty Samantha Wroblewski followed with a four-hit shutout of her own as Francis Marion University defeated Augusta University by a 6-0 count twice to sweep Wednesday afternoon's (March 29) Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader.

FMU improves to 24-16 overall and 6-10 in PBC play, while Augusta drops to 7-35 and 2-12.  The Patriots will play a conference twinbill at UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Wednesday's opener, Holland (11-10) allowed only three singles, while striking out one.

Sophomore first baseman Jennie Polak went 2-for-3 including a two-run homer, while sophomore shortstop Taylor Johnson registered three hits, including a pair of doubles.

FMU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an unearned run, and junior third baseman Sam Chiudina laced a 2-run single in the second to up the margin to 3-0.  Both Chiudina and lead-off batter Briana Barzola also had two hits in game one.

Morgan Hunter (4-13) pitched a complete game for the Jaguars.

In the second contest, Wroblewski (9-4) scattered four hits, fanned five, and walked only two.  Freshman designated player Shania Domingue posted two hits and an RBI, while senior center fielder Mikala Barnhart was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Patriots scored three times with two outs in the top of the second.  The initial run came home on a wild pitch and later in the frame Chiudina was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Johnson walked with the sacks full.

FMU upped its margin to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth.  Barnhart doubled and then scored on a Jaguar throwing error.  Domingue later walked with the bases loaded to force in the fifth run.

Barzola accounted for the final FMU tally with a sacrifice fly in the fifth frame.

Augusta right fielder Erin Rozier had a hit in each game of the doubleheader.  Kristen Mills (1-17) absorbed the game-two loss in the circle.
