Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, GA – Corner infielders Katie Collins and Hannah Reppert combined to drive in 13 runs to lead Armstrong State University to a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep of Francis Marion University, Sunday (March 26) in softball action. The Pirates won the opener 9-1 and the second game 10-2.
Francis Marion (22-16, 4-10) will play a PBC twinbill at Augusta University on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Junior third baseman Sam Chiudina accounted for the Patriot run in the opener with a solo home run, her seventh of the year. Freshman right-hander Sydney Holland (10-10) was charged with loss as she allowed nine runs on 11 hits.
Collins hit a grand slam and Reppert a three-run homer to back the three-hit pitching of Jane Trzaska (10-3).
In game two, FMU freshman second baseman Rayni Newman went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while sophomore shortstop Taylor Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Newman has hit safely in her last five contests.
Francis Marion junior righty Samantha Wroblewski (8-4) was the losing pitcher in game two as she surrendered five runs on nine hits.
Collins registered a three-run homer, while Reppert had a two-run single in the second contest. Morgan Duff (3-0) tossed a five-hitter in the pitching circle.
FMU senior left fielder Briana Barzola posted a hit in each game of the doubleheader.
