NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry College rallied for three runs in the bottom of the final inning to defeat Francis Marion University 5-4 in the first game of Tuesday afternoon's (Feb. 14) non-conference softball doubleheader, and the Wolves completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in game two.

FMU drops to 6-4.  The Patriots will return to action with a road doubleheader at the University of Mount Olive on Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.

Freshman righty Sydney Holland (4-3) took the hard-luck loss in Tuesday's opener.  She struck out a season-high 10 batters and allowed six hits.

Junior third baseman Sam Chiudina was 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs, while freshman right fielder Rayni Newman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Francis Marion led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth, and held a 4-2 advantage as the Wolves (6-2) came to bat in the last of the seventh.  After a lead-off walk, Hailey Drawe ripped an RBI triple and was later driven home by Haley Wildes' run-scoring single.  After a sacrifice bunt moved Wildes to second, she came around with the winning run on Morgan Sweeney's walk-off single.

Devon Morrison (4-1) earned the win despite surrendering 11 hits.

FMU senior left fielder Briana Barzola extended her hitting streak to seven games with a game-two hit and has now reached base safely in all 10 contests in 2017.

Both senior center fielder Mikala Barnhart and sophomore shortstop Taylor Johnson also had a hit in both ends of the twinbill for FMU.

Junior right-hander Samantha Wroblewski (2-1) absorbed the game-two loss as she allowed two first-inning runs.  The Wolves also scored six times in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Drawe was 2-for-3 with another triple and three RBIs in game two.  Emily Marchbanks (2-1) picked up the win with a three-hit shutout.
