FLORENCE, SC – Birgir Baldursson's 43rd-minute score gave Embry-Riddle University a two-goal advantage late in the first-half and would be the eventual game-winner in a 5-2 non-conference win over Francis Marion University, Saturday night (Sept. 10) in men's soccer action.

Francis Marion (1-2-1) will hit the road to face Chowan University on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match. FMU returns to Florence to open-up Peach Belt Conference play against the University of Montevallo on Saturday (Sept. 17) at 4 p.m.

The victory pushes Embry-Riddle's record to 1-2-1 on the season. The Eagles tallied their first goal of the game just 4:30 into the contest on a tally by Knutur Bjornsson. Felix Moller's goal at 7:12 would give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

Francis Marion found its way onto the board in the 13th-minute as sophomore Levin Sandmann beat Embry-Riddle's Richard Dearle to make it 2-1. The tally was Sandmann's first of the season. Sophomore Oliver Drakenhammar assisted on the goal – his first of the season.

Embry-Riddle would take a 3-1 lead into the locker room at the end of the first-half thanks to Baldursson's tally.

Following an Eagle score in the 57th minute, Sandmann again found the back of the net for the Patriots in the 62nd-minute to cut the deficit to 4-2. Sophomore Niklas Sundell registered his first point of the season with the helper.

The Eagles closed-out the scoring with a goal in the 90th-minute by Joao Belmonte.

The Patriots outshot the Eagles 13-12 and led 8-2 in corner kicks.

Sandmann registered seven of the Patriots 13 shots in the game and fired four on net.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Le Guyader made three saves in the goal for Francis Marion, including a pair on two penalty-kick attempts by Embry-Riddle.

Richard Dearle earned the win in net for the Eagles, while making a pair of saves.
