MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Georgia College rallied for three runs in the bottom of the last inning to claim a 3-2 win and a sweep of its Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader with Francis Marion University on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 26).  The Bobcats won the opener 7-6.

Francis Marion falls to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt, while Georgia College is now 10-10 and 2-0.  FMU will play host to the University of West Alabama on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In the opener, Georgia College scored once in the bottom of the first and six times in the last of the third frame to go up 7-0.  Two-run base hits by designated hitter Haley Burnett and third baseman Lindsey Conway highlighted the big inning.

Francis Marion rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth, on a two-run double by relief pitcher Taylor Lyuff and an RBI ground out by junior catcher Olivia Ferguson.

The Patriots trimmed the margin to one run at 7-6 with three more tallies in the top of the fifth.  Junior Murphy McConnell drove in the first run on an RBI groundout, while Ferguson delivered an RBI single and Luff scored the final run on a two-out error by the Bobcats.

FMU went in order in the sixth and did manage one base runner with one out in the seventh, but was unable to push across the tying run.

Both junior third baseman Tristan Faile and Ferguson recorded two hits in game one.

Senior righty Kayla Ellingsen (5-3) was the losing pitcher in the first contest as she allowed seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work.  Luff tossed 3.2 innings of no-hit relief to hold Georgia College at bay.

Sabrina Chandler (4-2) was the game-one winner, while Erica Bell picked up the three-inning save.

In game two, FMU built a 2-0 advantage on RBI singles by Faile in the first and senior second baseman Ashley Jaramillo in the third.  Freshman right-handed pitcher Katie Carnes (3-2) made that advantage stand up until the bottom of the seventh.

In that frame, the Bobcats loaded the bases on an error, a walk, and a single.  Michl'l Hull tied the game with a 2-run single, and after a strikeout, the winning run scored on a fielder's choice grounder.

Carnes allowed five hits, while striking out six and walking five.  Burnett (4-4) moved to the mound for Georgia College in game two and picked up the win.
