Patriots fall to Eagles 6-2 at Mid-South Classic

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, SC - Francis Marion University lost to Carson-Newman College 6-2 at the Mid-South Softball Classic in Spartanburg on Saturday (March 5).

In the Patriots' second game of the day, FMU led 3-0 in the second inning against Le Moyne College when rain suspended play. It was undecided if the game would be picked up and finished on Sunday.  Weather permitting, FMU (13-6-1) is to play two games on Sunday: 9 a.m. against Glenville State College and 11 a.m. against Lincoln Memorial University.

In the contest against Carson-Newman, senior outfielder Chelle Phillips was the lone Patriot with multiple hits.  Both FMU runs scored on passed balls: Destinea Schneider in the fifth inning and Phillips in the seventh.

Carson-Newman scored once in the first on a solo home run and then twice in the third.  After Schneider's run trimmed the margin to 3-1, the Eagles pushed across three insurance runs in the sixth.

Senior right-hander Cea Knox (8-3) was the losing pitcher.
