GREENWOOD, SC – Left fielder Morgan Robinson's one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning provided Lander University with the game's only run and the Bearcats beat Francis Marion University 1-0 and swept Thursday's (March 24) Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader.  Lander's Hayley Leissner tossed a one-hitter in the opening game as Lander prevailed 4-0.

Francis Marion drops to 20-15-1 overall and 5-7 in the PBC, while Lander improves to 19-12 and 4-4.

FMU was to have played at fifth-ranked North Georgia College & State University on Saturday, but that doubleheader has been postponed to a later date because of the threat of rain.

In game two, neither team could push across a run until the bottom of the last inning.  The runner who scored the winning run was on base only because obstruction had been called on the previous play allowing her to remain on the base paths.  Leissner (12-7) followed her one-hitter with a two-hitter in game two.

Francis Marion's only two base runners were courtesy of singles by Tricia Sizemore in the third and Megann Sallinger in the fourth.

Patriot right-hander Cea Knox (10-8) was the tough-luck loser as she allowed only six hits, while striking out three.

In the opener, Leissner limited FMU to four base runners and the only hit was a first-inning single to center field by Ashley Jaramillo.

Only once did the Patriots put two runners on base in the same inning and that came in the fifth on a one-out error and a two-out walk.

In the opener, Robinson was 2-for-3, including a second-inning RBI single. Catcher Rachelle Adkins plated two runs with a double to left field in the bottom of the fifth frame.

FMU junior righty Kayla Ellingsen (8-6) was the losing pitcher, although only one of the four runs she allowed was earned.  She fanned nine batters and walked only one.
