FLORENCE, SC – Junior right-hander Sarah Phillips pitched
a five-hit shutout to lead top-ranked and top-seeded North Georgia
College & State University to a 6-0 win over third-seeded
Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (April 17) in a
semifinal game of the Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament.
FMU (33-13) dropped into the losers' bracket where the
Patriots later rallied to beat USC Aiken.
Senior southpaw Michaela Wolf absorbed the loss for FMU.
She allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
Senior third baseman Kat Beauvais (2-for-4) was the lone Patriot
with more than one hit. Francis Marion stranded seven runners
on base, including the bases loaded in the top of the second.
The Saints scored four times in their half of the second inning
– twice on a tape-measure home run by Pilar Harden and twice
on a 2-run shot by Laura Voyles.
Phillips (37-0) struck out four and walked four as North Georgia
remained unbeaten at 44-0 and advanced to Sunday's title game
at noon.
