FLORENCE, SC - Senior shortstop Kat Beauvais delivered a
game-winning two-run double in game one and then scored three times
and recorded two runs batted in during game two as Francis Marion
University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from
Limestone College 3-1 and 9-1, Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 17).
Francis Marion improves to 7-1 overall, while the Saints drop to
1-3.
Senior southpaw Michaela Wolf (7-0) pitched a pair of complete
games, allowing only one unearned run on three hits in game one and
one earned run on three hits in the second contest. She
fanned a combined nine batters.
In the opener, Beauvais' two-run double to left centerfield in
the fifth inning erased a1-0 Saints' lead. Limestone had
taken the 1-0 lead in the second frame on a solo home run by first
baseman Kirstyn Burleson. She also collected one of
Limestone's other two safeties.
FMU added an insurance run in the sixth when pinch runner Kayla
Bowie scored on a throwing error.
Right-hander Emily Wallace (0-2) was the loser, although she
only allowed three hits and two earned runs.
FMU scored seven runs in the second frame of game two to snap a
1-1 deadlock. Beauvais was 2-for-2 with the three runs scored
and two knocked in. Wolf drilled a three-run homer as part of
the second-inning outburst.
Limestone starter Shelby Webb (0-1) was tagged with the
loss. Second baseman Kayla Hamalainen was 2-for-2 to lead the
Saints, and she drove in the lone run with a line-drive single off
the first baseman's glove.
FMU third baseman Jessica Hogan finished the twinbill with three
hits, two runs scored, and one RBI.
FMU will play a doubleheader at Mount Olive College on Sunday at
1 p.m.
