Cartano picked for CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team

Francis Marion University senior midfielder Sierra Cartano has been selected to the prestigious 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team for District III.

Selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), the All-District Team recognizes the area's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot, with the Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in early December.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Cartano owns a 3.97 grade point average as a finance and mathematics double-major.

She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society member, Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society, Phi Kappa Phi honor society, and Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society.  She was selected to the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction three times and has been named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll on every possible occasion.

On the field this season, Cartano appeared in all 17 matches and made 14 starts.  She scored two goals and helped the Patriots to an 8-8-1 record, a three-win improvement over the 2018 campaign.  She also helped the FMU defense surrender 15 less goals than the previous season.

A four-year starter at FMU, she played in 64 career matches, logging 4,774 minutes played, and tallied 17 shots, three goals, and three assists.

Cartano is a former All-Conference performer at Enloe High School.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
