Patriots dispatch Bruins 93-53

FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore point guard Detrek Browning scored a game-high 17 points to lead four Patriots in double figures as Francis Marion University rolled past Piedmont International University 93-53, Friday night (Nov. 20) in non-conference men's basketball action.

FMU improves to 3-1 and will play in the Currence Classic in Bluefield, W.V., on Thanksgiving weekend.  The Patriots will play Johnson C. Smith University on Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m. and the host, Bluefield State College, on Nov. 28 at 4 p.m.

The next home contest for Francis Marion will be Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. against St. Andrews University.

Following Browning was junior guard Alante Fenner with 13 points and five assists, while 6-7 sophomore forward Judah Alexander registered his second-consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Senior 6-7 forward Mykel Harris chipped in 11 points and six rebounds as 12 of the 13 Patriots scored.

Freshman 6-9 forward Nathan Hewitt led the Bruins (0-4) with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Fenner scored FMU's opening three points and the Patriots never trailed in the contest.  The margin quickly swelled to 21-5 after a fast break dunk by 6-5 junior swingman Filipp Burnashov with 10:29 left in the first stanza.  Francis Marion led 46-21 at intermission.

FMU's largest lead of the night was 42 points at 92-50 following a jump shot by sophomore guard Mike Davis Jr. with just under a minute to play.

FMU shot 45.7 percent from the field, including 9-of-31 on three-point attempts, and was 20-of-28 at the free throw line.  PIU was held to 29.9 percent from the floor, 6-of-22 from beyond the arc, and the Bruins hit 7-of-12 charity tosses.

The Patriots forced 23 Bruin miscues and led 25-8 in points-off-turnovers.  FMU also held a sizable advantage in fast break points at 33-3.
