Hartings has no love for Lady Panthers in 3-0 sweep

FLORENCE, SC – For the third consecutive match, senior Erika Hartings led Francis Marion University in kills, this time with 11, as the Patriots swept to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-11 non-conference victory over Claflin University, Tuesday evening (Nov. 7) in women's volleyball action.

FMU ups its season mark to 9-16 with its second straight win.  The Patriots have won all nine meetings with the Lady Panthers.

Francis Marion will conclude its regular season with a Senior Day match against Flagler College on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hartings registered her 11 kills on only 15 swings with just one error for a .667 hitting percentage.  Freshman Kayla Arthur added nine kills, while junior Georgia Garrison chipped in seven kills and eight digs, and freshman Cortney Bowen had five kills and a team-high four blocks.

Junior setter Carrie McGinnis dished out 22 assists, while freshman Tori Carpenter handed out 17 assists.  Freshman libero Natalie Ferrell led FMU with 11 digs as all 12 Patriots who dressed saw action.

A 5-0 run by Francis Marion expanded a narrow 11-10 lead in set one to 16-10 and enabled the Patriots to grab the early advantage.  Garrison had two kills in the decisive spurt.

McGinnis served the opening seven points in set two as the Patriots raced to a 7-0 advantage and never trailed.  Sophomore Lenee' Blot served nine times during a 13-1 run in the third set that saw a two-point Francis Marion lead at 7-5 swell to 20-6.
