Fulmore sets career-high in 80-65 victory over North Greenville

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University junior guard Shaunice Fulmore scored a career-high 29 points while leading the Patriots to an 80-65 victory over North Greenville University, Saturday evening (Nov. 11) in the final game of the Peach Belt Conference/Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Challenge.

FMU improves to 2-0 on the young campaign, while the Crusaders fall to 0-2. The Patriots' next matchup will take place in the Smith University Center when they entertain 14th-ranked and unbeaten Wingate University (2-0) on Wednesday (Nov. 15) at 6 p.m.

Along with her 29 points, Fulmore gathered seven rebounds and six steals, while shooting 11-of-25 from the floor. Seniors Khai Chandler and Briana Burgins scored 24 and 13 points respectively. Burgins also recorded a game-high 12 boards and moved up one more position on the career rebounding list to 16th with 655, passing Florence native Cassandra Bishop in the process.

FMU senior point guard Keanua Williams tallied nine points, six rebounds, and five assists, while senior center Kristin Tines hauled down eight rebounds.

Sophomore Karen Donehew and freshman Kathleen Rogers both netted 16 points for the Crusaders.

After two ties early in the first quarter at 2-2 and later 6-6, the Patriots took the lead for good at 11-9 on a three-pointer by Chandler.  That bucket ignited a 16-6 run to finish out the opening quarter, giving FMU a 25-15 advantage.

The Patriot lead was nine (33-24) before Francis Marion closed the second quarter on a 12-2 run, resulting in a 45-26 halftime margin.

The Crusaders did close to within 54-46 with 2:50 on the clock in the third period, but FMU responded with a 10-1 spurt and the margin would never dip below double figures again.  The largest margin was 22 points, at 76-54, following a Fulmore steal and layup.

Francis Marion connected on 41.7 percent of its field goal attempts, including 5-of-14 three-pointers, and the Patriots hit 15-of-24 free throws.  North Greenville shot 39.3 percent from the floor, was 5-of-16 from long range, and shot 12-of-18 at the foul line.

The Patriots converted 26 Crusader turnovers into 31 points.
