Patriots host Jaguars for PBC softball twinbill on Saturday

The Francis Marion University softball team will play host to Augusta University for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Saturday (March 10).

The twinbill will start at 1 p.m. at the FMU Softball Stadium in the Griffin Athletic Complex. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students with FMU students admitted free with identification.

FMU was to have entertained Georgia College for a PBC doubleheader on Sunday (March 11), but those contests have been postponed due to the threat of rain. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

Francis Marion is 11-11 overall and 0-2 in the Peach Belt, while Augusta is 4-14 and will be playing its conference opener.

Junior shortstop Taylor Johnson continues to pace the Francis Marion batting order with a .403 average, two home runs, 11 runs batted in, and 23 runs scored in 22 games from her lead-off spot.  After homering in both games of Thursday's twinbill at Barton College, junior first baseman Jessica Harney owns a .333 average with team-leading totals of seven homers and 27 RBIs.

Sophomore right-hander Sydney Holland heads the Patriot pitching staff with a 7-6 record, a pair of saves, and a 2.28 earned run average.

Senior first baseman Carolyn Edwards leads the Jaguars with a .333 average, a homer, and 10 RBIs.

The all-time series is deadlocked at 31-31.
