McGuigan shines in Hollywood as Patriots stand Eighth

HOLLYWOOD, SC – Senior Callum McGuigan shot an second-round four-under-par 68 to help lead Francis Marion University to an eighth-place standings after Friday's (Nov. 3) two rounds of The Battle at Stono Ferry Golf Tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston.

The 11-team event is being contested at the 6,756-yard, par 72 Links at Stono Ferry course.  The Patriot golfers will tee off for the final round on Saturday at hole No.10 beginning at 8 a.m.

Campbell University sits atop the team standings with a 277-273=550 scorecard, three strokes ahead of second-place College of Charleston (281-272=553).  The University of Maryland (288-279=567) is third followed by High Point University (286-285=571) and McNeese State University (283-291=574) to round out the Top 5.

Francis Marion carded a 293 team score during Friday's morning round and then improved to 284 during the afternoon round and sits at one-over-par 577, only three strokes out of the Top 5.

McGuigan's second-round score, which followed a 73 during the first 18 holes, is his career low as a Patriot.  The round included an eagle on the 524-yard, par-5 number-eight hole. He is tied for 11th in the players' standings with a 141 total, only three strokes outside the Top 5.

Junior Lars Sandvoll (72-73=145) and senior Marc Casullo (74-71=145) are tied for 31st place, while freshman Jacob Morris (75-72=147) is 44th and freshman John Burghardt (74-74=148) is tied for 45th position to account for the other Patriot golfers. Casullo parred 31 of his 36 holes on Friday to lead all tournament participants.

FMU freshman Michael Rials played as an individual and is tied for 25th position after a pair of even-par 72 rounds on Friday.

Hunter Dunagan of the host Cougars fired rounds of 64 and 67 on Friday and maintains a three-stroke lead in the players' standings.
