KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Senior Marc Casullo and freshman Jacob Morris both shot one-over-par 73 scores on Tuesday (Oct. 31) and Francis Marion University placed 12th after the final round of the East Bay Deli Classic on Kiawah Island.
Charleston Southern University hosted the tournament at the 6,911-yard, par 72 Turtle Point Golf Course.
Twenty-sixth-ranked University of Tennessee captured the team championship by leading at the conclusion of all three rounds. The Volunteers repeated as team champions with an 873 total, eight strokes ahead of second-place Jacksonville State University (881). Chattanooga (884) finished third, followed by the College of Charleston (896) and Rutgers University (897) to round out the Top 5.
Francis Marion shot a final-round 300 team score and finished the 54-hole event with a 920 tally. FMU played the final round without senior Callum McGuigan who had to withdraw due to an illness.
Junior Lars Sandvoll was the top FMU finisher in the players' standings. He shot a final-round 75 and finished tied for 29th with a 228 total. Casullo (81-75-73=229) tied for 33rd position, while Morris (83-79-73=235) tied for 58th, senior Alessandro Caselli (83-81-79=243) placed 75th, and freshman Michael Rials (89-73-84=246) tied for 77th.
Charleston Southern's Art Griffin fired a five-under 67 on Tuesday to earn medalist honors with a 54-hole total of three-under-par 213.
Francis Marion will close out its fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule on Nov. 3-4 when the Patriots play in The Invitational Tournament hosted by the College of Charleston in Hollywood, S.C.
