Rials dials in low round for FMU on Monday

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Freshman Michael Rials carded a one-over-par 73 on Monday (Oct. 30) to lead all Francis Marion University golfers as the Patriots stand 11th after two rounds of the East Bay Deli Classic on Kiawah Island.

The 15-team tournament is being hosted by Charleston Southern University at the 6,911-yard, par 72 Turtle Point Golf Course. The final round will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Twenty-sixth-ranked University of Tennessee continues to lead the team standings with a 298-286=584 scorecard, holding a 10-stroke lead over second-place Chattanooga (309-285=594).  Jacksonville State University (312-286=598) climbed into a third-place tie with Rutgers University (304-294=598).

The Patriots shot a 303 score on Monday after carding a 317 total on Sunday.

Junior Lars Sandvoll leads the FMU squad in the players' standings.  Following a 77 on Sunday, he shot a 76 on Monday and is tied for 27th position at 153.  Senior Marc Casullo (81-75=156) is tied for 41st place, while senior Callum McGuigan (76-81=157) is tied for 47th, Rials (89-73=162) and freshman Jacob Morris (83-79=162) are among a group tied for 66th, and senior Alessandro Caselli (83-81=164) is tied for 76th. Rials is a product of Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School.

Three golfers are tied atop the players' standings with one-over-par 145 totals.
